  • ChildBirth & Child Care Classes

Pregnancy can create anxiety for some new parents, but it's also one of the most rewarding times of your life. Through intimate, hands-on workshops, our certified Birth Center staff shares with you all the tools, tips and techniques you need to care for your little one and enjoy this very special time.

All of our classes are taught by certified clinicians and are open to the entire community.

    Childbirth Preparation
The thought of childbirth can be daunting for some new mothers, but our registered nurses are here to ease your mind and teach you all you need to know! During this class you will learn the basics of labor and birth including pregnancy changes, nutrition, relaxation techniques and comfort measures. We encourage you to bring a partner to this engaging workshop ($50 per couple).

    Breastfeeding Basics
Breastfeeding is a very personal choice and new moms opt to nurse their newborn for many different reasons. During this workshop, you will learn about the advantages of breastfeeding, how to care for yourself while you're breastfeeding and the proper techniques to breastfeed. We encourage you to bring a partner to this engaging workshop ($30 per couple).

    Baby Care Basics
Let us help you prepare for the "Now what?" part of going home with your newborn. We'll teach you all you need to know to care for your newborn once you've returned home and no longer have a full-time nurse on hand. We encourage you to bring a partner to this engaging workshop ($30 per couple).

    CPR for Family & Friends
Ever wonder what you would do if your child started choking? Through this workshop, you and your family can learn how to perform CPR rescue and foreign body airway obstruction for infants and children ($25 per person or $30 per couple).

    That's My Hospital!
"My two year old daughter woke up one morning crying hysterically - her tummy hurt. We spent all day in the doctor's office as they ran test after test. Later that afternoon, her pediatrician admitted her to Baton Rouge General.

I'm not from here, so I didn't question the doctor's instructions. But now I know exactly why she sent us to the General. When they prepped her for her CAT Scan, the tech described it to her as an amusement park ride...she gets excited every time she tells her story about 'going in the tunnel.' And each time they came in to take her vitals, they took Jack's vitals too... that's her doll who never leaves her side.

It was the most frightening few days for me, but watching them comfort her made all the difference... for me and her. Now, every morning when we pass the General on our way to school, she always shouts 'that's my hospital!'"
